I bought this for my wife's peace of mind while I'm out hiking. I've been home late and that doesn't sit well at all with her. Since I bought the Spot 2 I can send "I'm Okay" messages as well as a custom message that lets her know I'm back at the car and headed home. It has sent every message I have pushed the button for. I still hike well within my abilities and will never use the "SOS" unless I absolutely cannot get myself to safety but it's a good feeling to know it's there for myself or perhaps some one else on the trail that has gotten in trouble and needs help. Too bad this wasn't around back when I rode dirt bikes in the desert, had two bad experiences long ago that it would have helped with, emergency services had to be called for both but the time delay was very very long to get the needed help on location. With Spot, I know help isn't far away. For the fisherman far out to sea and those in extreme places the Spot is more of an entry level device but I see absolutely nothing wrong with it for the recreational user like myself.

Terrible customer service - marybelinda -
I'd look for another tracker - SPOT has terrible customer service, the call center folks i spoke with were ignorant of the product service, and I received contradictorybr /and incorrect info when trying to register this thing - I ended up wasting about an hour and having to make three phone calls to get the thing registered - if the tracker hadn't been a gift I would have returned it and gotten something else on principle.br /br /
